What’s next for Jasmine?
Well it has been a couple months since we had the opportunity to seen Jasmine Murray perform. Out of the Top 13 contestants on Season 8 American Idol Jasmine has been one of the quieter contestants since her elimination.
Of course we must remember that Jasmine is quite young and that she is a high school student. She doesn’t have the opportunity to be incredibly devoted to expanding her career right now. She is currently completing her education at the Mississippi School of the Arts. But rest assured we will see and hear from her again.
Jasmine will not be touring with the Top 10 throughout the United States this summer. The Top 10 will be performing throughout the US this summer and they opened up in Portland Oregon last night at the Rose Garden.
Jasmine Murray’s port American Idol life has included interviews on The Ellen Degeneres Show and Live with Regis and Kelly. Both interviews were with fellow American Idol contestant Jorge Nunez.

Jasmine Makes Top 12 - We Launch a New Feature
We’re really excited that Jasmine is through to the top 12. It turns out the Wild Card round is actually good for something. (Can anybody say “Jennifer Hudson”?)
In honor of the occasion, we’re proid to launch the new Jasmine Murray forum where you can talk about Jasmine and make new friends
Jasmine Murray voted off American Idol
What a huge disappointment. Last night Jasmine Murray was voted off American Idol. Jorge Nunez was the other contestant who was voted off. This week was Michael Jackson week. Contestants had to choose a Michael Jackson or a Jackson 5 song. Jasmine Murray sang “I’ll Be There” and Jorge Nunez sang “Never Gonna Say Goodbye”. Jasmine’s performance was very good and she surprised the judges once again with her singing ability. Unfortunately she was still voted off.
This is certainly a big let down, but this will not be the end of Jasmine Murray’s singing career. There must be plenty of music producers who are waiting to get their hands on her. As the judges have reminded us repeatedly, ’she is very commercial’. She will have a music career, if she so chooses.
It is a huge disappointment that she got voted off so soon in American Idol. She is young and inexperienced however, she was becoming better and better with every show.
We will miss you on American Idol Jasmine, and we can’t wait to see what you will do next.
The show featured an appearance by Kelly Clarkson, and she sang her new single “my life would suck without you”. There was also a fun performance by all of the American Idol contestants singing a mix of Michael Jackson and Jackson 5 songs. Don’t forget that this week’s theme was Michael Jackson.
Jasmine Murray - I’ll Be There - Michael Jackson
We finally kick off the real part of the American Idol Season 8. Last night was Michael Jackson night and contestants had to pick a Micheal Jackson song or a Jackson 5 song. Jasmine Murray sang “I’ll be there”. Once again she surprised the judges with her singing ability. I am really starting to wonder what they have been listening to over the last weeks of the show. Jasmine Murray is a great singer!

What the judges said!
“Check it out baby! You know what, listen. I had the pleasure of recording this song as a remake the very talented singer named Maria Carey, and it’s funny how you cut and mix the two versions together little bit. I was thinking when you came of sing that song, I was like yo I don’t know how this can be, but you know what man, you did a pretty good job on it. I was actually impressed, because it’s a tough song to sing after like Mariah and Michael. You know all that, but it was an that bad. It was pretty good.”
“You kind of surprise me too. I’m always on the edge, it’s like is she going to do it? Is she going to do it? And she had some of these notes and I’m like woh! I keep thinking though maybe have key down would’ve been more comfortable for you. Then it would’ve been just effortless, but you know what you did it. You sold it. You have a great stage presence by the way.”
“You’re a lovely young lady, you have tremendous composure on that stage. It’s like you’ve been doing it your whole life. You had some bright moments, but there were some moments going in the chorus that I’m not sure. Maybe you might not hear yourself in the monitor maybe or you’re overwhelmed by the audience, but you’re under. You were under a times, and you had brilliant moments at times. So you know, what way to go!”
“You know there’s not much more I can really add Jasmine. You know you made a good attempt. There was some nice control at the end, big notes are always going to trouble you. Little bit robotic at times. I think you just gotta lighten up a little bit. We’ve said this before, but you’ve gotta start acting your age a little bit. At the moment it’s a little bit little girl trying to be a grownup. That’s all I can really say.”I really liked that song choice for Jasmine. ‘I’ll be there’ really does suit her well. Simon once again told her to act her age. That she is like a little girl who is trying to be a grownup. It is not obvious yet that she is a very mature person, and she is not your typical teenager? It was obvious from group week when she was stuck in the nightmare group and she remained composed and handled the situation perfectly.
Last nights show was very exciting and it really showed just how much talent there is for Season 8 American Idol. All contestants in the Top 13 were good and nobody really had a ‘bad’ performance.
Here is what the other contestants and the Michael Jackson or Jackson 5 song they sang:
Lil Rounds - The Way You Make Me Feel
Scott MacIntyre - Keep The Faith
Danny Gokey - PYT (Pretty Young Thing)
Micheal Sarver - You Are Not Alone
Jasmine Murray - I’ll Be There
Kris Allen - Remember The Time
Allison Iraheta - Give Into Me
Anoop Desai - Beat It
Jorge Nunez - Never Gonna Say Goodbye
Megan Corkrey - Rockin’ Robin
Adam Lambert - Black or White
Matt Giraud - Human Nature
Alexis Grace - Dirty Diana
Before Jasmine Murray sang there was a nice video segment with Jasmine’s family in Mississippi. It was very nice. She looks like she comes from a very close family. Great job last night Jasmine. Your family should be very pround.
Tonight we will find out who got voted off. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. The first round is always tough. Late in the show Ryan Seacrest said there there was going to be a surprise change of the rules involving the judges. We will find out tonight what that surprise is. There have been a lot of surprises on American Idol already this year. I am almost a little afraid to find out what it is.

Jasmine Murray Makes the Top 12 - Top 13
Great Job Jasmine and congratulations! What a show last night. The Wildcard show was the most exciting show so far in this year’s American Idol. Jasmine Murray made it into the Top 13! A surprise last minute decision changed the show from a Top 12 to a Top 13.
Jasmine sang ‘Reflection by Christina Aguilera’, and it was great!
Listen to it:
What the judges said!
“Alright Yo. So listen, the other day it was really, really bad. Definitely a 100% improvement from then. I still think this song is a little bit too big for you. There were like some flat and sharp moments that were big house, but there were also some great bright spots again. I’m gonna say its way better than you were last time you sang.”
“I know confused because actually I didn’t even know you had that kind of a big voice, and now I’m starting to think that maybe she has a really big voice. I was cut a teller why did you pick that song in the beginning. We won a jew in the pop, commercial, but now she’s got this voice that just came out of nowhere. I’m a little confused.”
“You look lovely tonight. You pick to beautiful song, and you’re determined up there. You were really determined, there were some notes that fell off a bit, but overall I think you did a wonderful job.”
“I don’t think you’re giving this girl enough credit actually, Paula. I mean that was pretty special compared to what we heard before. I mean I’ve gotta tell you, you took a big risk.It sounded a bit at times like a young girl trying to sound more grown up but compared to what we heard before it was a huge improvement, and I think you just put herself back in the running.”
Jasmine Murray will compete in a Wildcard round
Great news! Jasmine Murray was announced last night as one of the contestants who will be given a second chance in the Wildcard round. At the end of last night’s results show American idol announced the names of eight contestants who will be competing for the final three positions in the top 12. Jasmine Murray was named.
Of course Jasmine deserves a second chance after her poor song choice the last time she performed. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. It would be a shame to not have Jasmine in the top 12.
After Jasmine was told that she will be one of the wildcard contestants she came down on stage with Ryan Seacrest. Ryan asked Kara, “what does she need to do in your opinion to make it through Kara”? Kara replied, “Jasmine you have to kill us with your vocals, and you have to pick the right song and stay in your lane. Which is probably a Rhianna type artist, young, commercial. You got a lot going for you, but you really need to kill us”. That is very good advice. The Wildcard Round will be tough.
The other contestants Jasmine will be performing against tonight are: Von Smith, Ricky Braddy, Megan Corkrey, Tatiana Del Toro, Matt Giraud, Jesse Langseth, Anoop Desai.:
Good luck tonight Jasmine.
